As someone who is always looking for something sweet to eat, I love checking out any new McKinney
places selling made-from-scratch treats to satisfy my sweet tooth. Ogi’s Bakery and Deli sits just to the East of 75 off Eldorado and opened in early 2018. They are open 7 days a week making cakes, pastries, sausages,
sandwiches and bread from scratch each day.
Its owners, Ogi and Dora Stoyanov, are originally from Bulgaria, and owned a deli and bakery in Odessa
before moving to McKinney.
Expect to be greeted by Dora when you enter the small bakery; she bakes all the pastries and breads you
see while Ogi makes the meats and sausages used in the sandwiches.
It is clear they take pride in their craft and Dora will happily explain and provide recommendations for
any of the delicious treats in the pastry display case.
As its name states, Ogi’s is a European style bakery, so the offerings you find here are a bit different
from your typical American style bakery. Ogi’s Bakery specializes more in the flaky apple strudel, baklava
and variety of layered crème cakes; though you will still find familiar fair like cupcakes and cookies on
When I stopped in, Dora recommended the Garash Cake. A traditional Bulgaria pastry, Garash Cake is
made of layers of walnut meringue and chocolate crème. For anyone who is gluten free, this flourless
cake is a great option.
Beyond the pastry case, you will find homemade soups, sandwiches and other savory options on their ever-changing menu.
