What do you do when you need a vacation but you're short on time and budget? Turn your vacation into a staycation! That's precisely what we did last month and our staycay destination was none other than Historic Downtown McKinney. Where to stay was a no-brainer: McKinney's newest bed & breakfast, The Neathery Estate. A quick 3 minute drive, or 15 minute walk, to the square made our meals and activities convenient and easy to get to. Check out our article on The Neathery Estate for more details and photos of the gorgeous historic home turned bed and breakfast.
Our itinerary was jam-packed: a meal and an activity planned for morning, afternoon, and evening. If your staycation leads you to McKinney, you can't go wrong with our suggested itinerary, listed below! Over the next few weeks we will be updating each spot with its own article. So be sure to check back and click on the links to read in detail about each stop on our staycation itinerary.
North Texas Yoga
Conveniently located right on the square, above Me & Mrs Jones boutique, this quaint yoga studio was a great start to our day. We had the honor of taking class with the director, Laura King, and boy did she kick our butts! Vinyasa Flow was our class which we came to find out is one of the hardest classes offered and is practiced in a warm room, so needless to say we were sweating but it felt good to get all those toxins out.
It's no secret we love the newest breakfast spot to put down roots on the square! The food is delicious, the coffee is fresh and the eclectic vibe is perfect. May we suggest the corn beef hash, it was very flavorful and perfect to refuel us after yoga. Oh and the mimosas helped as well! To find out more about this gem check out our previous post.
Our staycation wouldn't be complete without dining at a square staple- Spoons Cafe. Our visit consisted of amazing appetizers, refreshing cold white wines and of course dessert. If nothing else you've got to come to Spoons for their desserts. I mean they've had the same baker, Little Toni, since day one so she knows what she's doing! This open, airy and friendly cafe makes you feel right at home and was a perfect afternoon pit stop.
Downtown McKinney's own escape room is located right next to Filtered. This was so much fun! After entering the room we only had one hour to find clues, solve puzzles, crack codes, and complete our mission. Did we escape in time? Read on to find out...
You can never go wrong with the rustic-chic Harvest. We had yet another fabulous meal of sustainable and locally sourced food and drink, with superior service. Crispy fall off the bone ribs and Harvest's own brew, Farmer's Daughter, were two of the highlights of our meal. Read more details HERE.
Live music and after dinner drinks
After dinner a great martini list and live music were calling our names, and Eclair Bistro had the answer! Check out their live music calendar here. It's right in downtown McKinney and is a perfect first stop for after dinner. The bar at Rick's, the Celt, and the Pub are also great options for music and drinks! The Celt and the Pub also have bar games like darts, pool, etc.
