Get ready this weekend for some good 'ol Irish fun at the first annual McKinney St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Shamrock Run happening at Tupps this Saturday, the 17th. That's the actual St. Paddy's day just FYI, so you'd better be wearing green if you don't want to get pinched! The festival is presented by Davidson Lane Real Estate Group and the entertainment sponsored by the James Jenkins Agency. Big shout out to both companies and SBG Hospitality for bringing this festival to town and hopefully creating a new McKinney tradition! Now here’s everything you need to know about the festivities happening this Saturday.
The 5K kicks off at 9am (you can still register as a “no-frills” runner) and there’s an award on the line for most spirited group. The best team costume will win tickets to see Riverdance at the Winspear Opera House and a $100 gift card. Major prizes at stake here so we'd better see some green Irish spirit, you runners! After the race gets under way the festival doors open at 10am and no time is wasted on getting the party started. The String Theory Irish Band kicks off the festivities right at 10am. This Celtic Folk band was recently ranked one of the top 5 Irish Bands in Texas by the Dallas Observer. Needless to say you won’t want to miss out on their Celtic magic! While String Theory is playing their sweet melodies on the music stage, there will be a variety of Irish dance companies showing off their skills on a separate stage. We’re talking Maguire Academy of Irish Dance, Shandon-O’Regan Irish Dance Academy and McKinney Dance Academy. Get ready for Irish step-dancing at its finest and some great costumes. Then to close the day out you’ll hear from Tradisiun Band. This young folk band has been around just over a year. Their music is a mix of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, bluegrass, folk music, and a few Appalachian influenced tunes. I’ve just gotta say, I’m super excited to hear what they bring to the table!
Entertainment isn’t all you’ll be getting at the McKinney St. Patrick’s Day Festival. There will be local food vendors galore and shopping till you drop. The kiddos will also be well taken care of with face painting and crafts organized by Adventure Kids Playcare, along with a ninja obstacle course from Obstacle Warrior Kids. And of course there will be beer, I mean this event is happening at TUPPS Brewery after all! It’s a Celtic packed day that everyone in the family can enjoy and is a perfect ending to Spring Break. Make sure to stop by our #bemckinney booth and sign up to win our Ultimate Foodie Package, valued at over $450! We can’t wait to see you all there, in your green of course!
