Entertaining Your Out-of-town Guests

Thanksgiving break is a week away, which for most of us means we're entertaining out of town guests. Well good thing we have plenty to do in McKinney! Here are a few of our favorite ideas on what to do with friends and family for the upcoming holiday.

*we've added links for each business so you can find out more

The Whole Family Can Enjoy

The Yard

The perfect outdoor playground for both adults and children! Young ones can play in the designated kids area while the adults get to enjoy food and drinks from their close by tables. There’s also ping pong, foosball, and cornhole for all ages to enjoy. Dogs are also welcome inside the doggie area and after dark, the outside bar area becomes 21 and up. Everyone in your family will enjoy The Yard!

TUPPS Brewery

When you’re located in a historic cotton mill that means you have plenty of character and plenty of space! Bring all the beer lovers in your family to TUPPS! They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Plus there is enough space for the kids to really run around and no worries about getting judging looks, the weekends are filled with families and their littles. Check out their event calendar for taproom hours, live music and other community events. Oh, and don’t forget to bring home a 6 pack since that’s legal now! ;)

Hat Creek Burger Co

This one is more for the kiddos than adults, but they do serve beer and wine so I take that as a win! This Austin-based chain hasn’t been here long, but it’s a popular joint thanks to the huge outdoor playground. Order food and drinks at the counter, then claim your outdoor table, and let the kids loose! The playground and covered eating area are fenced in, making it a pretty safe and stress-free experience. Food is good and not too expensive, and depending on what night of the week you go there will be some kind of daily deal.

For the kids

Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park

Are the kids bouncing off the walls? Then take them to Urban Air! They can jump, play dodgeball, rock climb, zip line and try a floating obstacle course. This really is the ultimate indoor playground, and yes adults can play too! Since all ages are welcome, I wouldn’t recommend taking toddlers. The place can get a little crazy with the big kids, especially in the evening. But I still recommend taking the bigger kids, and they have food and drinks so you can spend hours playing. (alcoholic drinks as well)

Play Street Museum

For the younger kids, Play Street is a great calm and clean option. McKinney’s theme is “the farm”, and you can even milk a pretend cow! There are many different play stations, like blocks, a pretend shop and grocery store, crafts center and more. This is a nice alternative to letting the kids destroy your playroom!

Obstacle Warrior Kids

Another great option for getting out some pent up energy! Five and up can test their strength and agility on the main obstacle course, while the littles can play around in a modified course. Employees are there to help your kiddos and make sure no one gets hurt, so no worries! This is a great place to visit- very clean, nice employees, and a great workout.

Adults Only (and maybe teens)

Smitharts Craft Food & Cheers

Food, drinks, and games. This is a great hangout! Come play pool, darts or poker, or cozy up for a long day of football watching. Smitharts has a full menu that also includes craft cocktails, and beer and wine of course. The whole family is welcome, but I would imagine you’d have more fun if it was just the adults. ;)

Guitars and Growlers

Another great joint for all the beer drinkers in the fam with over 40 beers on tap! Enjoy samples, pints, flights or growlers to go all while jamming out to some live music. And don't worry winos, there's a small wine selection as well. Check their website to see their live music schedule along with trivia nights and open mic nights. Oh, and did I mention they also serve some great food?!

Franconia Tour

Happening every Saturday at 11am. Spend two hours behind the scenes at the famous Franconia Brewery, and after the tour stay awhile and enjoy some beer. Under 21 is welcome.

Wineries/Wine Bars

We're lucky to be surrounded by a handful of local wineries and tasting rooms. Go to each individual website to check hours and events. Don't complain. Don't worry. Don't stress. Just wine!

Food Tour

Who would have thought little ol' Mckinney would have a food tour company, let alone two! Experience the best food, drinks and shopping the Mckinney square has to offer through the various tours offered by Food Walks of Texas and We Ate Well. You won't be disappointed, and it's a great way to show your guests how awesome this city is!

Escape Rooms

Really test how well your family can work together in high pressure situations! Mckinney has three escape room options, one of which serves alcohol and has a bar!
