Our Farm to Table Feast at Harvest

From the cuisine and cocktails to the service and setting, Harvest has got it going on. If one could truly be in love with a restaurant, I’d be ready to get down on one knee and propose. The casual elegance, the perfectly executed farm to table inspiration, and the friendly and knowledgeable wait staff… I will happily dine at Harvest as long as we both shall live.

Harvest is one of the rare restaurants where I feel like I could literally close my eyes, point to anything on the menu, and thoroughly enjoy it no matter where my finger landed. I have unconditional confidence in the kitchen and when I'm there I love to order things that I have never tried (or maybe never even heard of). The more unusual it sounds the more likely I am to give it a shot because I trust the masterminds behind the menu - and they have never done me wrong. For example… what on Earth are oat groats? I have no idea but they were apparently in my salad and were delicious. And who orders a bowl of snap peas for dinner? Sounds weird but I did and it was awesome.

Megan and I recently ventured on a girls night out during our Staycation in downtown McKinney and we enjoyed yet another amazing meal from Andrea Shackelford, the head chef and master gardener behind the rotating seasonal menu. Here’s what was on our table that evening:

Crispy Ribs...

...with house made pickled vegetables, Texas barbecue sauce

Baby Kale salad...

...with picked grapes, spiced toasted garbanzo beans, oat groats, soaked mozzarella, blackberry balsamic vinaigrette

Top Sirloin Steak...

...with roasted carrot mashed potatoes, baby carrots, green garlic purée, cilantro, black garlic

Cornmeal and Snap Pea Pesto...

...with almond black garlic purée, toasted almonds, lemon balm, pickled grapes, sesame seeds

The bar keeps up with the kitchen with its own seasonal menu and excellence.

Highway 19

strawberry-infused tequila / agave / lime juice / fresh strawberry puree / strawberry sugar rim and lime / nasturtium

honeycomb-infused gin / elderflower liqueur / lemon juice / basil simple syrup / flower petals

Farmer's Daughter

a slightly, but not too hoppy brew with a touch of sweetness to round out the bitterness from local honey

All in all, my favorite food memories from this particular meal were the crispy ribs appetizer and the Pollinator cocktail. I highly recommend them if you haven't tried them yet! And I have to give a shout out to our server, Emma - Megan and I have enjoyed many meals together in McKinney and this evening was hands down the best service we've experienced. If you're in Harvest for a meal soon, ask for Emma!

And stay tuned for an upcoming article about the McKinney Farm Tour for the Farm Crisis Fund which happened earlier in June; The Seed Project Foundation, headed up by Harvest's owner, organized this charitable event. My husband and I were lucky enough to snag tickets before they sold out and I can't wait to share the details with you soon.
