Patina Green Home and Market, the perfect name for a shop that focuses on bringing out the antique beauty in the items they sell and the building they occupy. Staying true to their name, the store, the items inside, the staff that run it and the food that comes out of it continue to get better with age!
Patina has been on the square 7 years now and is still one of my favorite places to shop and eat. Yes that’s right, they are a retail store along with a restaurant- don’t see that often now do you? What first drew me in to Patina was the amazing smell of smoked brisket drifting from the propped open front door. There was no way I could continue on my journey without stopping in for a bite to eat. To my surprise I was first greeted by an array of vintage gifts, locally sourced grocery items, and home decor from the retail store in front before walking into the kitchen and dining area that fills the back of the shop. Now I could go on and on about the unique finds available in this store, but the purpose of this post is to talk food and man does Chef Robert and his team know how to cook!
Patina Green is open for lunch daily and serves delicious sandwiches made from local, fresh and high quality ingredients. The sandwiches are packed with flavor and are a perfect amount of food for your afternoon meal and have even been featured on the Food Network and in Food & Wine Magazine. But the best way to fully experience Patina Green is to check out their highly coveted monthly Market Dinners, there’s good reason why they sell out quickly.
I had the pleasure of dining at my first Market Dinner right before the holidays. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had never been before and I’m a bit of a picky eater so I was a little worried about what would be served; but I super excited nonetheless. What I walked into that night was a warm and welcoming environment where I felt like family except this family has damn good style, a DJ, glorious smells coming from their kitchen and amazingly delicious food that I must say I’m pretty proud of myself for trying and loving.
The menu at these monthly Market Dinners is never the same so I won’t focus on the particulars. You just need to know that Chef Robert spends a lot of time planning his perfect meal, which you’ll come to learn after the table visits you’ll receive from Robert and his sweet wife Kaci. The engagement with each table is so unique and helps make this event feel like a dinner party at your coolest friend’s house. And if you’re a foodie don’t hesitate to ask questions as each course is brought out, the whole staff loves to talk food! That brings me to my next point, the amount of beautifully plated and unique food you will receive.
Now every dinner is different, but mine consisted of 9 courses ranging from the classic deviled egg to the unique roasted watermelon radish with smoked beet crema. Everything I tried was packed with flavor and every course that came out was colorful and plated to perfection. Robert and Kaci also did a great job of teaming up with the guest winery for the evening, RLV, on their pairings and it was a nice surprise to discover a new local winery.
I could go on and on about this dinner. I was so impressed with all the food and loved the feeling of having my own personal chef for the night. Plus, the unique atmosphere from the beautifully curated decor of Patina along with a DJ just made it feel like I was at some secret pop up dinner club, very exciting! I highly recommend everyone go and experience a Market Dinner with the Patina Green team. It’s a great date night (they have intimate tables for two) or a wonderful gathering with friends. 2018 dates have been announced with the first one coming up on January 27. Make your reservation now, these fill up quickly!
