Weekend Goals

It’s all about the Friday Night Lights this weekend as Mckinney High and McKinney North enter round 1 of football playoffs. Head over to Southlake to watch the MHS Lions take on the Southlake Carroll Dragons or take a quick trip to Plano to cheer on the MNHS Bulldogs against the Frisco Centennial Titans. And what’s a football game without a good hot dog, right? Make sure to check out Top Dog Tacos just off the McKinney square for gourmet hot dogs (they’ve also got delicious tacos, hence the name). After the football fun is over stop in The Celt on the square for some great drinks and live music all weekend long. The Celt even has a drink called the Colorado Bulldog- go McKinney North! Good l

Meet McKinney- MRC

RUN verb move at a speed faster than a walk, never having both or all the feet on the ground at the same time. If you find yourself at Market Street off El Dorado and Lake Forest on a Saturday morning you might have noticed the large group of individuals hanging out at the cafe. All are a little flushed and for some reason they keep downing water in between their coffee sips. Meet the McKinney Running Club. A group of walkers, joggers, hobby runners and competitive athletes. All enjoy a good run, socializing and it seems coffee. Saturday morning runs aren’t the only event this 200+ member club organizes, but it is the most popular. MRC was founded in 2010 with the goal of joining together in

A McKinney Thanksgiving

Eat, Drink & Be Thankful It's no wonder that Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday for so many people: the welcomed cooler weather, the quiet relaxing feel of the season, and the focus on family, food, and gratitude. I love Thanksgiving for all of these reasons - but today let's focus on two particular indulgences that no Thanksgiving feast is complete without: pie and wine. Whenever possible I try to shop locally, and you don't get more local than The Rosemary Bakery and McKinney Wine Merchant. Both businesses are run by community members who are committed to McKinney and have great passion for their crafts. And that passion shows in their products. I'll be a customer of both this Thanksgiving

Weekend Goals

This weekend we’re checking out some of the new(ish) businesses on the McKinney scene. First up is Exit Plan in downtown McKinney - the newest escape room in town. It’s a great way for friends, family and co-workers to build teamwork and test problem solving skills. And if you haven’t strangled each other by the time the clock hits zero , you can hit up one of the many food and drink options surrounding the square...it’s a win-win! Next up is a great place to grab a drink and enjoy some live music- Eclair Bistro on the square. Eclair opened its upstairs martini lounge earlier this year and has proven to be a great place to hang out with friends while sipping on a cocktail and letting the smo

Meet McKinney- Franconia Brewing Co.

In the spirit of North Texas Beer Week, we’ve decided to check out both of McKinney’s breweries. Earlier in the week, we tasted and discussed each beer over at Tupps but here, let’s spend some time with one of DFW’s oldest breweries, Franconia Brewing Company. I met up with Dennis Wehrmann last week at the brewery to talk about his beer, the growth of the craft beer scene in DFW, unique German beers, and what’s next for Franconia. Dennis is a native of Nuremberg, Germany, a Bavarian town near Munich. As a 5th generation brewmaster, brewing beer is all he knows. His great great grandfather founded the original iteration of Franconia Brewing in Nuremberg in 1800 and his family has brewing beer

Weekend Goals

Celebrate the end of North Texas Beer Week by supporting our local breweries this weekend. Tupps is a great hangout for adults and children and you could easily spend all Saturday there. Live music will be playing, a food truck will be serving up deliciousness, beers will be a plenty and the kids can run around out back. Make sure to arrive by 12:30 so you can catch the quick free tour. Now if you’re the aspiring brewer looking for more depth then head over to Franconia for their 2 hour tour and tasting. The tour starts at 11am and costs $5. That $5 also gets you samples and the opportunity to hang around after and drink some beers. Since Franconia doesn’t have a taproom the tour is your onl
